Death Note: the Last name

I finally got to watching the second installment of the Death Note live movies, and I have to say, I think I liked the end more than the manga/anime even though Mello and Near did not make their appearances.

Instead of Light using the DN on L, L uses the DN on himself and sets his death for 23 days later (the limit). L fakes his death, uses Watari to switch Misa’s (Ryuk’s) DN, and then catches Light! Then L dies 23 days later while eating chocolate. That poor L. I would have been really happy if he didn’t die, but at least he didn’t die as useless in the manga. I mean, he got killed by Rem! He should of at least been killed with more dignity.

The movies overall were pretty good. It’s completely different from the manga except for a few things (and did they even have a girl on the investigation team?), but they did well with the story. I didn’t mind them cutting out some big plot points because the manga really dragged those things out. Like the succession of L by Mello and Near. It literally took like 5 volumes. Lots of talking and confusion, so I didn’t enjoy it as much as the L arc. Ken’ichi does a very good job with L. I mean, if he had more hair gel, he could totally be the live L! He does the handmotions and expressions well until he laughs. His laugh is too happy. It needs to be more sadistic I say! He also does a lot of weird things in the movie. Besides gaining a few hundred pounds from all the sugary things he prolly had to eat, he was sucking this ginormous block of poo coloured thing in the 3rd part on Crunchyroll. Seriously, he was sucking this square block of green-colour. It was pretty funny, and I ended up watching that part 5 times.

When I looked up the opening song for the second movie, they said it was supposed to be a song by Suga Shikao, but it ended up to be Dani California again! It was weird and the song still doesn’t fit well even though I like the song. The ending was “Snow (Hey Oh)” by the Red Hot Chili Peppers which fit PERFECTLY with the ending. It’s weird hearing an english song in a japanese movie, but it was nice. Hmm, Oh, that reminds me, what was up with Ryuk at the end? It was completely random, with him flying around Tokyo tower (right?) and screaming. I think it would have been better if he had actually said something. Like “hehehhe”, instead of just randomness none of us can understand.
